PRIVACY POLICY

Effective September 15, 2026

This policy explains what War of the Generals collects, why, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It describes the Service as it is actually built, not as a template imagines it: the fields in our database, the one cookie we set, and the keys we write to your browser are all named below.

Each section opens with a plain-language summary in italics. The rules that govern play are in a separate document — the Terms of Service.

01AT A GLANCE

A short, accurate summary. The sections that follow give the detail.

  • We run no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. There is nothing on this site counting you.
  • We never sell your personal data, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
  • If you create an account we hold your email address, your callsign, and a one-way hash of your password. We never store the password itself.
  • You can play without an account at all. Guest progress stays in your own browser.
  • One cookie, lasting about ten minutes, and only if you sign in with Google or GitHub. Everything else lives in your browser’s local storage.
  • Games you play online against another person are recorded so they can be replayed. Games against the computer leave one anonymous line — the difficulty and how it ended — with nothing attached to you.

02WHO WE ARE AND WHAT THIS COVERS

Sienna Logic LLC is the controller. This covers the site, the game servers and our apps.

War of the Generals (the “Service”) is operated by Sienna Logic LLC, a Texas limited liability company (“Sienna Logic”, “we”, “us”). For the purposes of the GDPR and similar laws, Sienna Logic is the controller of the personal data described here.

This policy covers generalsgame.com, the game servers behind it, and any mobile application we publish under the same name. It does not cover other websites you reach from ours, including the sites of Google and GitHub when you choose to sign in through them; those have their own policies.

03INFORMATION YOU GIVE US

An email address and callsign if you register. A formation when you save one.

Account details. If you register with an email address, we store that address (lower-cased, so that identity is case-insensitive), the callsign you choose, and the date you registered. Your password is stored only as a salted one-way hash — we cannot read it, recover it, or tell you what it is.

Social sign-in. If you sign in with Google or GitHub, we receive your email address from the provider, whether the provider considers it verified, and the provider’s own identifier for you. We store the provider’s name and that identifier so we can recognise you next time. We never receive your password. We link a social sign-in to an existing account only when the provider tells us the email address is verified, so that no one can take over an account by claiming an address at a provider.

Game content. Formations you save, and the names you give them. The display name you type when playing as a guest.

Correspondence. If you email us, we keep your message and our reply so we can deal with it and refer back to it. If you use the contact form, we receive the topic you choose, your email address, any name you give, your message, and — if you are signed in — your callsign and account identifier. The form delivers your message to our inbox as an email; it is not stored in our database.

04INFORMATION WE COLLECT AUTOMATICALLY

Server logs from our host, and the record of online games so they can be replayed.

Technical and log data. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes the ordinary technical information involved in serving a website — IP address, browser user-agent, the page or endpoint requested, timestamps, and similar — to deliver the Service, protect it against attack and abuse, and diagnose faults. We do not build profiles from this, and we do not connect it to your account beyond what is necessary for security.

Game records. When a game against another person finishes, we record the room it was played in, both display names, the account identifiers of any signed-in players, the winner and the reason, the start and end times, and the full move log together with both starting armies. The move log is a structured record of positions, challenges and announcements — it does not contain either player’s name. The display names are held only in the two name fields on the record. That record is what makes a replay possible.

Games against the computer. The computer opponent thinks on our servers, so its games run there the same way an online game does. When one finishes we keep a single anonymous line: the difficulty, the formation the computer opened with, who won and how long the game took. There is no account, no name, no room and no move log on it — nothing that ties it to you, and no way to tell that two of those lines came from the same person. We keep them for one reason, which is to see whether the computer is a fair match at each difficulty and to make it better.

05WHAT WE DELIBERATELY DO NOT COLLECT

No analytics, no ads, no payment data, no location, no data bought from anyone.

  • No analytics or measurement service of any kind, first-party or third-party. The only thing we count is how games against the computer end, and those records are anonymous.
  • No advertising, no ad networks, no advertising identifiers, and no retargeting pixels.
  • No payment or financial information — nothing on the Service is for sale.
  • No precise or approximate location beyond what an IP address inherently reveals to any web server.
  • No access to your contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or files.
  • No biometric data, and no special-category or sensitive personal data as those terms are used in privacy law.
  • No personal data purchased or received from data brokers, and no enrichment of your record from outside sources.

We have not sold personal data, and have not shared it for cross-context behavioural advertising, in the twelve months before the date at the top of this page. We do not intend to start.

06WHY WE USE YOUR INFORMATION, AND OUR LEGAL BASES

To run the game, keep it fair, keep it secure, and answer your messages.

Running the Service
Creating and authenticating your account, saving formations, matching you with an opponent, arbitrating games, and showing your history. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
Fair play
Detecting and acting on cheating, collusion, ban evasion, and abusive callsigns. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a game other people can trust.
Security and reliability
Rate limiting, blocking attacks, screening contact form messages for spam, investigating faults, and keeping backups of the database. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in a Service that stays up and is not abused.
Communicating with you
Answering your emails, and telling you about material changes to these documents or to the Service. Legal basis: performance of our contract, and our legitimate interest in keeping you informed.
Legal compliance
Responding to lawful requests and enforcing our Terms. Legal basis: legal obligation, and legitimate interests.

We do not send marketing email. We do not carry out automated decision-making that produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you.

07COOKIES AND LOCAL STORAGE

One short-lived sign-in cookie. Everything else is local storage on your own device.

Cookies. The Service sets a single cookie, and only if you begin a Google or GitHub sign-in. It is named sal_oauth_state, it holds a random anti-forgery value and the page to return you to, it is HttpOnly with SameSite=Lax, and it expires after about ten minutes or as soon as the sign-in completes. It is strictly necessary for that sign-in to be safe.

Local storage. Everything else the Service remembers about you on your device is kept in your browser’s local storage. It is first-party, it is not transmitted to any third party, and most of it never reaches us at all:

gotg_session
Your sign-in token. Removed when you sign out. Absent unless you have an account.
gotg_player_id · gotg_name
A random identifier and the display name used for guest play, so a match can be resumed.
gotg_match_history · gotg_campaign_rank · gotg.daily.results · gotg.gauntlet.best
Local statistics and progress: results, campaign rank, daily challenge outcomes and best gauntlet run. Never sent to us.
gotg.theme · gotg.practice.last · gotg_setup_panel_collapsed · gotg_onboarded_setup
Preferences and interface state: chosen theme, last practice settings, panel layout, and whether you have seen the setup walkthrough.
gotg.formation.preset · gotg_pending_formation
A formation you are building or have chosen, held until you save it to your account or discard it.

Because we set no analytics or advertising cookies, there is nothing here that requires a consent banner, and you will not see one. Clearing your browser’s site data for generalsgame.com removes all of the above, signs you out, and permanently erases any guest progress.

08WHO WE SHARE INFORMATION WITH

Our host, and the sign-in provider you choose. Nobody else, and never for money.

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as described here:

Cloudflare, Inc.
Hosting, content delivery, the database that holds accounts and game records, and the realtime servers that run each game room. Cloudflare acts as our processor.
Google LLC · GitHub, Inc.
Only if you choose to sign in through them. They learn that you signed in to this Service; we receive the details described in section 3.
Google Fonts
The Service loads its typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. As a result, your IP address and browser details are disclosed to Google whenever a page loads, whether or not you have an account.
Cloudflare Turnstile
Only on the contact page. Turnstile checks that a message comes from a person rather than a spam bot. To do that it runs a script from challenges.cloudflare.com in your browser, which sends Cloudflare your IP address and technical details about your browser and device. We use the result only to decide whether to deliver the message; Cloudflare acts as our processor.
Legal and safety
We may disclose information where we are required to by law, or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to investigate a breach of our Terms, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect the rights and safety of players or the public.
Business transfer
If the Service is sold or merged, information may transfer as part of that transaction. We will post notice here before your information becomes subject to a different policy.

09WHERE YOUR INFORMATION IS STORED

In the United States, on Cloudflare’s network.

The database that holds accounts, formations, and game records is operated by Cloudflare and located in the United States. Requests are served from Cloudflare’s global network, which means technical data may be processed at the location nearest you before reaching us. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or the Philippines, your information is transferred to the United States; we rely on the Standard Contractual Clauses incorporated into our agreement with Cloudflare, together with the technical measures described in section 11, as the safeguard for those transfers. You can ask us for more detail at any time.

10HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

Accounts until you ask us to delete them. Sessions expire after 30 days.

Account record
Until you ask us to delete it. There is no automatic expiry for inactivity.
Sign-in sessions
Stored only as a hash, and expire 30 days after you sign in. Signing out deletes the session immediately.
Saved formations
Until you delete them, or until your account is deleted, at which point they are deleted with it.
Online game records
Kept indefinitely, because a finished game is a shared record belonging to both players. Deleting your account unlinks those records from you; the display name shown at the time remains in the record’s name field unless you ask us to remove it, which we will do on request.
Computer game results
Kept indefinitely, because they are anonymous and there is nothing in them to delete. Deleting your account does not affect them, since they were never linked to it.
Local storage on your device
Until you clear your browser data. We cannot delete it for you, and we cannot read it remotely.
Server and security logs
Held by Cloudflare for a short period under their retention settings, and used only for security and diagnostics.
Email correspondence and contact form messages
Kept in our inbox for as long as needed to deal with the matter, and then for a reasonable record. Contact form messages are not kept anywhere else.

11HOW WE PROTECT IT

Hashed passwords, hashed session tokens, encryption in transit.

  • Passwords are stored as PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 hashes with a random per-account salt and 100,000 iterations. The original password is never written down anywhere.
  • Session tokens are 256-bit random values, and only their SHA-256 hash is stored. A copy of our database cannot be replayed as live sign-ins.
  • All traffic between your device and the Service is encrypted in transit with TLS.
  • Password checks use constant-time comparison, so a wrong guess reveals nothing through timing.
  • Access to production data is limited to the people who need it to operate the Service.

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities where the law requires it, and without undue delay.

12YOUR RIGHTS, AND HOW TO EXERCISE THEM

Email hello@generalsgame.com. We answer within 45 days, and deletion is done within 30.

Wherever you live, we will honour the following requests about the information we hold about you:

  • Access — a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and confirmation of how we use it;
  • Correction — fixing anything inaccurate, including your callsign or email address;
  • Deletion — erasing your account and the data tied to it;
  • Portability — a machine-readable copy of the data you gave us, including your saved formations and game history;
  • Objection and restriction — asking us to stop or pause a use that relies on our legitimate interests;
  • Withdrawal of consent — where we rely on consent, withdrawing it at any time, without affecting what came before;
  • Non-discrimination — we will not degrade the Service because you exercised a right.

HOW TO MAKE A REQUEST

Email hello@generalsgame.com from the address on your account, and say what you would like us to do. We will respond within 45 days. If a request is complex we may take a further 45 days, and we will tell you why before the first period ends. There is no charge unless a request is manifestly unfounded or excessive.

You can delete your own account at any time from your Service Record page, without asking us. It takes effect immediately. If you would rather we did it, or you can no longer sign in, email us and we will complete the deletion within 30 days of verifying the request.

We may need to verify that a request really comes from you, usually by asking you to confirm from the email address on the account. An authorised agent may act for you with written permission.

If we say no. You may appeal by replying to our decision and asking us to reconsider. We will respond to an appeal within 60 days, and if we still decline we will tell you how to complain to your data protection authority.

13REGIONAL PRIVACY RIGHTS

Extra rights that apply depending on where you live.

European Economic Area and United Kingdom. Sienna Logic LLC is the controller. The legal bases we rely on are set out in section 6. In addition to the rights in section 12, you may lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority, or with the Information Commissioner’s Office in the United Kingdom.

California. Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA, the categories we collect are identifiers (email address, callsign, account and provider identifiers, IP address), internet or network activity (requests to the Service), and your own content (formations and game records). We collect them for the business purposes in section 6, from you and from your device. We do not collect sensitive personal information, and we have not sold or shared personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. You have the rights to know, delete, correct, and to limit use of sensitive information, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising them.

Texas. Under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act you may confirm whether we process your data, access and correct it, obtain a portable copy, delete it, and appeal a refusal as described in section 12. We do not sell personal data or sensitive data, and we do not process personal data for targeted advertising or profiling.

Philippines. Under the Data Privacy Act of 2012 you have the rights to be informed, to access, to object, to erasure or blocking, to rectification, to data portability, and to damages, and you may complain to the National Privacy Commission.

14CHILDREN

The Service is not for children under 13.

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal data, email hello@generalsgame.com and we will delete the account and its data. See also section 2 of the Terms of Service.

15CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

Material changes are posted at least 14 days before they take effect.

We may update this policy as the Service changes. The effective date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects how we handle your personal data, we will post notice on the Service at least 14 days before it takes effect and, where we hold your email address, send it there as well. If a change requires your consent under applicable law, we will ask for it before relying on it.
